Miracles & Prophets + Magic & Charlatans

Let’s delve into the realm of miracles and prophets. We’ll also explore the concept of magic and charlatans. Miracles and prophets serve as God’s means of capturing people’s attention when they refuse to listen. Miracles are intended as signs, and prophets are intended as messengers. Sometimes, these manifestations are genuine and from God; other times, they are deceptive, arising from a place of evil intent, either human or otherwise.

In the context of testing a video game you’ve just developed, imagine having a developer console to perform various tasks, such as entering cheat codes or modifying game aspects perceived as miraculous by non-player characters. Picture yourself walking within the game you’ve created, interacting with characters while having significant control over the system. Despite this, your creations might ignore your influence, leading to consequences you can only watch unfold.

Similarly, when God performs a miracle, it displays His power and perfection, signaling that He isn’t confined by the system’s limitations. Contrastingly, when humans attempt similar feats, it’s deemed wrong and labeled as witchcraft. The Bible, particularly in Exodus 22:18 (ESV), sternly warns against sorcery: “You shall not permit a sorceress to live.”

In our modern scientific age, reconciling physics with witchcraft may seem challenging. Yet, considering the analogy of creating a video game simulation for testing artificial intelligence, we find parallels. God created reality, expecting obedience and confession of sins when we fall short—an analogy akin to developing and testing AI in a controlled environment.

When a non-player character becomes aware of cheat codes or forbidden knowledge, they deviate from the intended rules, akin to a witch manipulating the system. Analogously, Jesus, as the player and developer, performed actions in the system that seemed like spells or rituals. However, the distinction lies in following God’s commands rather than manipulating the system for personal gain.

Magic and miracles, when performed by God, have different connotations. God’s actions are miracles, while humans attempting the same are often engaged in magic. Magic is portrayed as dangerous, analogous to non-player characters learning cheat codes, potentially disrupting the system’s harmony.

Transitioning to the discussion of prophets, the common misconception is that prophecy solely involves predicting the future. However, it encompasses more—a prophet serves as a messenger between God and humans, relaying warnings or promises. Testing the authenticity of a prophet involves aligning their message with Scripture and verifying the accuracy of their predictions against established facts.

In conclusion, miracles, magic, and prophets play distinct roles in the grand design. Miracles signify God’s power, magic symbolizes human deviation, and prophets act as messengers in the divine delegation of responsibilities. Testing and discernment are crucial to differentiate genuine messages from deceptive charlatanism.
